MothergridsCadillac Center - Beijing
Cadillac Center – Beijing
Bloomage International Investment Group Inc.
The building was purpose designed as the Beijing Olympic Basketball Arena and following the Olympics, closed for a fifteen month refurbishment and conversation into a multi-use arena that could host major artists whilst still retaining full NBA basketball facilities, a process managed by AEG China.
The main roof had beams spaced at 12m with no intermediate structural steelwork and supported a winch operated central scoreboard that was both very heavy and obstructed views of the stage from the upper seating levels.
Winning the design and build contract in the face of stiff international competition, Star Events first stripped out the scoreboard and winch system, replacing the 13 screens onto a new hoist supported telescopic frame. The end result cleared all sightlines and reduced the load to the roof by 16 tons. Concurrently, custom clamps were fitted to the main roof steelwork to support the 25m x 18m Mothergrid. Lifted on 16 x 4-ton hoists top BGV D8+ standards and controlled by ART (Active Roof Technology) system, the Mothergrid can lift and support, without additional safety connections, a full 50 tons of production.
A further 8 hoists lift the two telescopic sections of the scoreboard.
You have revolutionized rigging in China!

The entire project was undertaken in just 13 days in the venue, plus 2 staff training days, enabling the venue to open on time. Situated in the Wukesong Culture and Sports Centre in West Beijing, the Beijing MasterCard, now Cadillac Center, is one of the busiest music venues in China.
