The Jewish Leadership Council (JLC) called on Star Events’ expertise when it needed a new menorah structure, the multi-arm candelabra centerpiece for the Jewish eight-day wintertime festival of lights, Chanukah, in Trafalgar Square.
As well as planning a permanent replacement the Star team worked with a limited budget to design and build a short-term solution for the Square’s North Terrace ahead of Chanukah 2018, which is managed by Bliss Events.
Made from stock parts and set on a 4m x 4m T-tower base, the Star menorah stands 10.4m tall with a 4.5m horizontal arm across the top fitted with a nine light candelabra.
The fully clad structure is designed to the site’s exacting weight restrictions and can accommodate a very high wind load, in step with the season. Installed in a day, the de-rig takes just hours.
“We adopted an identical base detail to the lighting towers used on the recent Range Rover Evoque launch at Old Truman Brewery,” Steve Nelmes, Star Events’ Project Manager, says.
“The menorah is fitted with bespoke candles on an automated schedule, with eight lights controlled by DMX and the ninth via a direct switch.”
“Our thanks to Steve and the Star team for all their hard work. The menorah looked fantastic and the event went really well,” Natasha Glass from the JLC said.
